The business was founded by Mr. Tissa Abeyagunasekera in 1976 as INTA Industries. It carried out the business of manufacture of paints under the trade name INTANILITE. The trade name and logo were registered under patent notice and gazette on 23rd November 1979.
Business was tough at the outset as the market was highly competitive. In 1978 INTA gained the acceptance of Cargills (Ceylon) Ltd., then a local commercial giant, established over a hundred years before, to market its products on a sale or return basis. The business grew and thrived.
It was then decided to set up a painting contracting arm of INTA in order to supply and apply its products instead of marketing them. This arm was names INTA Enterprises and served as a decorating and contracting firm. The paints for the new firm were naturally produced by the parent firm, INTA Industries.
Within three years the new firm built a reputable corporate clientele including Five Star Hotels, Foreign Banks, Embassies, High Commissions and Industrial projects of large magnitude. INTA Enterprises was subsequently replaced by INTA International (Private) Limited.
The Company now thrives in medium and large scale painting, waterproofing, concrete repair and chemical treatment fields. Our own brand of products is of sufficiently high quality to be accepted by several large scale international enterprises as a recommended product.
The introduction of modern technology has a high priority and we have strengthened our concrete repair and waterproofing expertise with good quality up to date products. We will continue to use these products on a supply and apply basis in order to maintain a high quality lasting finish on projects undertaken.
In 1991 the company branched out into Maldives, having won a contract for the National Security Service to supply and apply interior and exterior painting for a five story building in Male. The company has spread its wings to Indonesia in 1992 and United Arab Emirates in 1998 for the same nature of business. To exploit business oppotunities available in the UAE, INTA ventured out in thr year 2000 by establishing a branch office in Sharjah under the name of “Al Aqeeq International Waterproofing & Paint Contracting”.
INTA, formed in 1976, was incorporated as a private limited liability company in 1992 under the name of INTA International Private Limited.
